Convicts to Australia
Thomas Sleath was transported to Western Australia aboard the vessel Belgravia which arrived Freemantle on 4 July 1866. He died in Irwin River, Dongara, Western Australia in 1874. He was the son of John and Hannah Watford from Stagsden, Bedford UK
The Dictionary of WA lists only one Sleath, the entry is as follows:
SLEATH Thomas 1825-1874 . carpenter, lit. prot. conv. Bedford 1864, stealing, pre. conv., 7 years; arr 'Belgravia" 4.7.1866(8595) TL 23.41868 CP 2.1.1872 Champion Bay; Perth; Fremantle, lab. Carpenter.

The area referred to as Champion Bay is now the City of Geraldton.
Thomas Sleath was transported aboard the Recovery which left London on 30 Oct 1835. It arrived on 25 Feb 1836. When Thomas came to Australia he was 25, protestant, married, had 1 child and a native of London. He was sentenced to 7 years for stealing a handkerchief from a shop. He was granted a Ticket of Leave on 5 Dec 1842, to a country town in NSW, Wollombi. He re-married Julia McLoughlin from Donegal, Ireland and had 3 children Thomas, Elizabeth and Anne. On his death certificate his father was Thomas Sleath and mother Elizabeth Dillon.
Samuel Fare (aka Sleith) was transported for his part in a murder. He left on the Emporer Alexander on 12th April 1833 arriving at Hobart in Tasmania on 12th Aug 1833. It is uncertain how, if at all, he fits into the family.
Thomas Sleath aged 25 was transported in 1840 on board the Woodbridge. It sailed from London 16 Oct 1839 and arrived NSW 26 Feb 1840 with a sailing time of 133 days. His occupation was given as Labourer. He was sentenced to 15yrs for sheep stealing. He was granted a Ticket of Leave on 14th Feb 1846 in Moreton Bay (now in Queensland) He married an Irish Orphan named Margaret Leonard from Galway Ireland and had three children, William, Sarah and Ann. He was employed as a boatman and lighthouse keeper with the Harbourmasters Department on Sydney Harbour. He died 3rd Nov 1861. On his death certificate his father was Gabriel Sleath butcher, and his mother Ann White from Gilmorton
